STORE BRANDS 2025” Presents Tomorrow’s World Today

PLMA Show Envisions a Future Where The Leading Brands Are Retailers

NEW YORK − By the year 2025, store brands of the country’s retailers will set the standards that all other products must measure up to in terms of quality, packaging, performance, innovation, and consumer satisfaction. This is tomorrow’s world as envisioned by PLMA’s STORE BRANDS 2025 Private Label Trade Show, to be held Nov. 14-16, 2004 at Chicago’s Rosemont Convention Center.

“The PLMA show has always been as much about the future as the present,” says PLMA President Brian Sharoff. “But this November we are projecting some 20 years ahead to a world in which we believe retailers will be the preeminent brands, and their private label products will stand second to none. PLMA will challenge showgoers in Chicago to look at how far private label has come and also provide a preview of the future that’s in store for store brands.”

The PLMA show will present over 2,300 exhibit booths offering food, snacks, beverages, health and beauty, household and kitchen products, and general merchandise. There will be a special section for fresh, frozen and refrigerated foods and another section for gourmet foods and wines and spirits. In addition, there will be fifteen international pavilions from Europe and Asia.

More than 4,000 retailers, wholesalers and others attend the PLMA show each year, including buyers and executives from America’s leading supermarkets, drug chains, mass merchandisers, convenience stores, dollar stores and specialty retailers.

In addition to speakers exploring the trends and technologies that are shaping retailing’s present and future, a number of new features are being introduced to help showgoers glimpse what tomorrow’s world holds and prepare to be a part of it.

  • A new PLMA Idea Supermarket will showcase concepts in store brand products being offered today by retailers from around the U.S., Canada and the world;
  • PLMA’s live Open Focus Group Sessions will examine what real shoppers have to say about the stores where they shop, and the store brand products they find on the shelves;
  • PLMA’s new “Weekend with St. Joe’s” will offer two days of executive education classes on store brand program and product development, supply chain management, promotion, advertising, packaging and trade dress, taught by the faculty St. Joseph’s University of Philadelphia in conjunction with PLMA.
  • PLMA’s annual Salute to Excellence Awards will recognize retailers and wholesalers whose successful store brand programs demonstrate an ongoing commitment to excellence. In addition, this year’s awards breakfast will honor the winners of PLMA’s first Food & Drink Awards for product innovation in store brands, co-sponsored by Supermarket News.
